The Vortex pump technique developed by Wemco is based on the principle of a whirlpool: a vortex is created by the rotating, recessed impeller, extended into the suction line, drawing the liquid/solids into the pump and then quickly through the discharge, whilst minimising the fluid/solids contact with the impeller and volute. This simple design allows solids, whether soft or hard, to pass through the pump without choking the impeller and considerably reduces pump wear.
The Wemco heavy-duty C Range of high chrome iron recessed impeller pumps (illustrated), containing the unique cup-shaped or curved impeller, impeller back plate and two-piece housing has a significant user base in the UK.
