Intercoms designed to cope with harsh marine environments and the
chemical wash-downs of food factories rely on tough polystyrene
enclosures to maintain reliable operation
Stonewood Audio opted for tough, easily customised polystyrene housings
for its new SA series industrial intercom system, which is used widely at
sea and in the wet and potentially corrosive conditions of frequently
washed-down food plants. The housing of choice was Spelsberg's TK
enclosure range, offering an IP65 sealed, impact resistant and corrosion
proof housing for the vulnerable electronics. Spelsberg UK managing
director, Graham Fox picks up the story.
Due to the ruggedness of our enclosures, they are often used as metal
replacements and we have been able to supply many electronics
manufacturers who specialise in supplying equipment for harsh
environments. When we were approached by Stonewood, they found that our
CNC machining capability enabled us to supply bespoke enclosures within
48 hours, allowing them to save the costs incurred by carrying out such
operations in-house.
Spelsberg's customisation service includes cutting slots and entry
points, and drilling fixing holes in all sizes of aluminium,
polycarbonate and polystyrene enclosures. Any combination of company
logos, product names, wiring diagrams, safety information and routine
junction labelling can also be applied to lids or other external surfaces.
