Laser Scanner Provides Wide Angle Safety

The Schmersal LSS 300 laser scanner offers a 180o detection zone at distances of up to 60m using a beam that is completely safe and harmless to operators. The product is suitable for detecting movement in those zones that cannot always be categorised as simply ‘allowed’ or ‘disallowed’. Using complementary software, the LSS300 can be programmed to monitor up to two danger zones simultaneously, each with its own configurable warning and protection areas. Both safety and warning zones can be defined by the user such that when an operator enters the former, machine motion immediately stops, whereas if a warning zone is breached, a warning signal is issued to prevent unnecessary machine stops. However, if the operator pays no heed to the warning signal, the machine is automatically stopped.
