Din Mounting Ups Protects Industrial Automation

Rockwell Automation and UPS system specialist, APC have partnered to produce a DIN mounted, line-interactive uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that can be installed in industrial control cabinets to protect production control equipment against brown-outs or short, unscheduled power outages. In the event of a complete power failure, the new 1609-U will enable the orderly shutdown of industrial PCs, PLCs or data logging HMIs in order to minimise downtime on restoration of the power supply. The line-interactive topology of the 1609-U provides up to 96% efficiency, so practically no extra heat is generated that might otherwise compromise the temperature control of cabinets in which they are installed. The device provides active voltage regulation to deliver pure sine wave power, together with noise filtering and transient suppression. The battery is charged continuously by the line voltage, and will attain 90% of full charge in less than four hours from a flat condition. Switching to back-up power takes 2.5ms, and full load power is available from the unit for nine minutes
