Reliable 'soft' motion control from a PC
Reliable PC-based motion control is possible, says Rockwell Automation,
if you combine its SoftLogix 5800 software, running under Windows NT 4.0,
and new motion interface card, the Allen-Bradley 1756 PM02E, which is
employed as an 'interrupt' master. Advantages of this approach include
faster processing (thanks to the PC); single-point programming that is
common to all platforms within the control environment, such as HMIs,
PLCs and servos; and a big reduction in panel space requirements as fewer
hardware components are required to achieve the same ends.
