Modular Drives: Renold Is On The Case!

Renold Gears' new e.PM right angle gear drives - a mid-range product series offering single worm (PW), helical worm (PH)and helical/bevel/helical (PB) configurations - have just one case design between them (per size), regardless of gear configuration. Some 70% of components, moreover, are common across the range, enabling reduced spare parts holdings, quicker build times and thus more rapid response to customer orders. And should a customer wish at a later stage to upgrade his gear drive configuration from, say, single worm to helical worm, this can be achieved simply by changing some internal components - he doesn't have to buy a new drive. The e.PM drive range covers ratios from 5:1 to 333:1 and has torque capacities up to 12,000Nm via hollow bore or output shaft. An important feature is the input adapter that allows any standard IEC or NEMA motor to be fitted to the drive without further modification. Each variant is available in six sizes, from 90mm to 200mm centres and the range covers input powers from 0.55kW to 45kW. According to Renold, the PM series performance is around 52% greater than that of existing gear drives, which in many cases will allow a smaller unit to be selected for the same application.
