Renold Enjoys Growing Demand For Escalator Drives

All 101 escalators on the Jubilee Line extension from Green Park to Stratford are driven by Renold TW series drive units. More recently, the company has been asked to supply additional TW drives for the New York Metro Subway Authority's upgrade programme, which has already seen the installation of 38 such units. These drive packages include single- and two-speed motors up to 45kW, complete with electronic speed control and soft start. The TW series 'Titan' specified for these contracts is a rugged gear unit that can be supplied in sizes between 254 and 711mm and in power capacities to 500kW. The gear sets are manufactured to close tolerances (+/-4um), ensuring quiet and vibration-free operation. They feature worm wheels based on the innovative Holroyd tooth form, which transmits true angular velocity at high efficiency.
