A new coupling from Reliance Gear Company, the Reli-a-Flex, features a
radial slot pattern that produces negligible axial and radial bearing
loads. The shorter, compact device differs from similar one-piece
couplings of its size in that it has two sets of slots. The second set
introduces an equal and opposite angle that caters for parallel as well
as angular offsets. Made from low inertia grade 7075-T6, corrosion
protected aluminium, the couplings are available in 13, 16 and 20mm
diameters. A Reli-a-Flex coupling has been undergoing trials at
Reliance's Huddersfield factory and recently completed fifty million test
cycles at 2.0Nm and 0.2mm offset without failure.
