The Viking external gear pump range has recently been extended to include models providing flows from as little as 0.2litre/min up to 760litre/min. The range now features 29 models, which are available from pump specialist, Michael Smith Engineers, and includes models rated for maximum continuous pressures up to 34bar and maximum intermittent pressures up to172 bar.
Reliability and minimal maintenance are the key benefits of the SG Series of pumps thanks to their innovative design and this ensures extended seal and bearing life keeping downtime to an absolute minimum. For example, shaft movement is minimised which significantly lengthens seal life, radial (side-to-side) movement, or misalignment, is prevented by close-coupled motor mounts, or outboard bearings for foot-mounted pumps. Axial (back-and-forth) movement is minimised by spur-type gears, instead of helical gears, which can cause gear thrust on contact components. Also, the pumps incorporate as standard, anti-friction needle bearings which eliminate bearing wear at start-up and shutdown.
Multi-section models with multiple porting options mean that two or more separate pumping sections driven by a single source can be configured with separate ports or common suction or common discharge ports. This means each section can operate at different pressures and or flows, making the pumps very adaptable to unique pumping applications. Optional carbon graphite bearings are available for very low viscosities or silicon carbide for abrasives which ensures ‘best’ bearing selection for pump configuration matched to the application.
