Intelligent positioners for decentralised process control applications

Burkert’s new 8792/8793 SideControl units can be used to provide local or remote  intelligent control of valve actuator position (linear or rotational). The 8793 can be configured as a process controller, adjusting valve position according to set point temperatures, pressures and/or flow rates, with optional communications to the host control system. The units are housed in compact and robust IP65/IP67-rated aluminium enclosures, which are suitable for use in ATEX zones 2/22 applications.

The 8792 employs the latest three-wire technology, and operates over a wide input pressure range, of 1.4 to 7bar. It offers a comprehensive range of functions, and can be easily operated via a large integral backlit display. A new version of Burkert’s ProcessTune set-up software enables fast and reliable recognition of the control loop type, and selection of controller parameters.

Initially, Burkert has introduced the standard version of the SideControl 8792 for IEC534-6/VDI/VDE 3845 (NAMUR) applications, and a version with Profibus DPV1 communications capability. These will be followed by units with DeviceNet communications, a remote version for externally connected position sensors, and a low-cost basic version without display for low-cost OEM applications.
