Powerful stepper motor system configuration software is absolutely free!
The American company, Applied Motion Technology (AMT), which is
represented in the UK by Leatherhead based Encoder Technology, has
developed some powerful PC-based software for configuring position and
motion control systems based on stepper motors. Developed essentially to
support the company's huge range of stepper motor products, the software
is available completely free of charge and is well worth a look.
Demonstrated to this semi-computer-literate editor by AMT's Jon Bentley,
I was quite taken by the functionality of the main programming screen,
which enables a sequence to be developed logically using simple graphical
elements and clear-English statements. Programs can be up to 100 lines
long, and as each instruction line is quite powerful in its own right,
100 lines can represent a rather sophisticated program.
There are 20 different instructions, including I/O, branches, loops and
motion commands, and these can be combined to meet most stepper motor
application requirements. AMT has been at pains to keep the software
simple, so users with widely different competence levels can use it
effectively. According to Mr Bentley, it serves the 'rump' of simple
stepper applications, covering a very wide range of industrial motion and
position control requirements.
