Stripping Straps From Pallets

Nottingham based machine builder, Industrial Automation is using Parker Pneumatic P1R rodless cylinders to control cutting operations on its new DS2 'Destrapper', a pallet strap removal system. Targeted mainly at the brewing industry, the DS2 locates, holds, cuts and removes the nylon restraining straps that hold products to pallets. With a footprint of just 1,200 by 1,200mm, the system will handle pallets up to 2,400mm high with a cycle time of just 15s. Each DS2 has four P1R rodless cylinders with bore sizes from 32 to 100mm and strokes from 200 to 1,400mm, to control the movement and positioning of the cutter carriages. The installation length of these cylinders is only slightly longer than their stroke and, in many cases, can be used in 50% less space than conventional cylinders.
