Compact linear encoder system offers high resolution, low weight and low power draw

Inmoco’s new Mercury II 1900 analogue linear encoder system from MicroE Systems opens up new application possibilities by enabling smaller, lighter equipment designs that deliver higher speed (up to 7.2m/s) and greater throughput. The Mercury II 1900 provides 5μm to 1.2nm resolution (depending on customer electronics) and high accuracy (± 1μm to ± 5μm). It integrates a miniaturised sensor with cut-to-length tape scales for easy customisation and installation, or glass scales for the highest accuracy applications (± 1μm).

Mercury II 1900 offers analogue 1Vpp sin/cos and index pulse outputs from a unit that measures just 8.7mm high. The benefit of this reduced height is amplified when the Mercury II 1900 is used with a tape scale; the resulting system being 58% shorter than competitive encoders. All electronics are integrated in the Mercury II 1900 sensor, a low-power design that draws just 48mA at 5V.
