The Lenze SMV frequency inverters with IP65 enclosure now have the option of a polycarbonate casing to give protection from the ultraviolet radiation present in sunlight. These inverters were originally designed for factory environments with washdown, but the IP65 enclosure allows use outdoors. Here standard plastic casings suffer from medium-term degradation due to the ultraviolet rays in direct sunlight. With this new option, a polycarbonate casing is used giving long-term suitability for use in exposed locations.
Nine sizes of SMV cover powers from 0.25 to 7.5kW with either three phase 400V supply or single phase 230V supply up to 2.2kW. A simple integrated keypad allows local control and display of status. Alternatively modules for a wide range of fieldbuses can be incorporated – PROFIBUS, CANopen, DeviceNet, Modbus, Ethernet. These inverters feature the Lenze EPM memory chip which holds all the parameters for the drive. The EPM allows easy transfer of settings from one drive to the next, saving time at installation and maintenance.
The benefits from putting an inverter with high enclosure protection close to the motor can be easily calculated. Clearly the panel size needed is reduced. Power connections that would have been run with shielded cables from the panel to the motor can now be replaced by standard cables, usually a spur from a mains loop. Installation time is reduced. SMV inverters are designed and approved for use worldwide, CE and RoHS compliant for Europe, UL and cUL for the Americas, GOST for Russia and C-Tick for Australia and New Zealand.
