Air Hardening Steels Have Environmental Advantages

Ovako Steel's 677 and 477 air hardening steels do not require oil or salt baths, thereby eliminating a costly and environmentally polluting production step. According to a new report from the company, the steels show very good hard machining properties in their hardened state. Substantial cutting depths can be used to achieve faster machining without requirement for cutting fluids, and a resulting surface that is easy to finish. In addition, Ovako 477 has good dimensional stability at elevated temperatures, plus the strength and toughness required for applications such as shafts and other machine elements subject to adverse operating conditions. The report can be ordered via email.
