The concept of 'panel-less' automation has taken a step further with the
introduction of Omron's NSJ5 combined HMI and PLC, which offers a
powerful range of functions while taking up less panel space. Complete
with network interfaces and a CompactFlash slot, the unit is only 30mm
thicker than Omron's standard NS series HMI, yet it replaces a separate
PLC, power supply, network card and HMI.
The NSJ5 also makes use of Omron's 'Smart Active Parts' object based
programming tool. This offers pre-programmed objects, representing a
range of control devices, that can be 'dragged and dropped' to configure
a control system. The process is simple and quick, and users don't need
to write a single line of code. A library of Smart Active Parts is
provided with all Omron touch screens and new additions can be freely
downloaded from the company's site.
