Serial Converter Beats Instrument/Pc Mismatch

Omron has introduced a handy serial communications converter that overcomes the problem of connecting devices and instruments with RS422/485 ports to PCs that have only RS232C or USB type interfaces. The K3SC converter is fully bi-directional and, when used with an RS232C port, supports data transfer speeds up to 38,400baud. A total of 31 RS422/485 slaves can be connected, with a maximum distance of 0.5km between the unit and the most distant slave. The K3SC measures 30x80x78mm and is suitable for DIN rail or base-plate mounting. Screw terminals are provided for the RS232C, RS485 and RS422 connections, while a standard socket is available the USB connection. Visual confirmation of operating status is provided by power, RD and SD LEDs, and the units can be configured to operate with or without echoback.
