NSK has come up with a bearing life equation, which it claims provides a
more compared with the basic ISO
model (based on empirical work undertaken in the 1940s and 1950s) that
takes no account of recent improvements in bearing technology and
materials. NSK's Advanced Bearing Life Equation (ABLE) takes operating
conditions into account, applying adjustment factors for environment and
fatigue limits. The company arrived at the new model by subjecting 450
roller and 550 ball bearings to 40 different types of operating
condition. ABLE also takes account of the inter-relationships between the
