Clamp Load Can Now Be Measured In The Field

Precise measurement of the clamp load produced by a bolt or other threaded fastener is now possible in the field with a new ultrasonic stress measuring instrument from Norbar Torque Tools, the USM-II. Having all the features of the USM-I, launched last year, the new battery-powered, portable instrument can be taken to site and used at locations where mains power is unavailable. Weighing just 1.7kg, the USM-II is housed in an aluminium case with stainless steel end plates. It features an alphanumeric membrane keypad that enables bolts to be labelled by name rather than by code number. While ultrasonic devices for measuring bolt length have been available for some years, they have been costly and difficult to use, Norbar claims that the USM-II’s advanced digital signal processing technique makes it significantly easier to use and the price much more accessible.
