On the 20th of April 2009 the world’s biggest industry fair opened its doors again; the Hannovermesse Industrie 2009. A few weeks before that Danfoss already knew what the most important theme at this international fair would be; energy efficient solutions that reduce the use of oil and gas and at the same time reduce CO2 emissions. Danfoss, already supplying Cleantech technology for many years, showed their latest drive solutions for reducing energy consumption. The Danfoss VLT frequency drives already help to save more than 20 million kWh each year, equal to the energy consumption of over 5 million households. At the same time the new VLT Low Harmonic Drives - a combination of drives and active harmonic filters was introduced at the Hannover Fair - reducing pollution of the mains to which the drives are connected. Also on our stand was the new Danfoss Drives safety concept that provides the best possible safety in drive applications.
Protect the mains - VLT Low Harmonic Drives
Frequency drives cause distortion on the mains connection. Because of the way frequency drives operate, current distortion will affect the quality of the mains and possibly cause an overload to transformers and electrical wiring.
The new VLT Low Harmonic Drives combine the advantages of active filters with the advantages of frequency controlled drive applications. An integrated and optimized active filter eliminates the current distortion generated by the drive. In this way the load on transformers and mains cables is reduced and a high mains quality can be maintained.
More safety with the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302
Special safety option modules for the VLT AutomationDrive make it possible to configure the drive to comply with compulsory safety regulations. The open system is fully configurable, easy to install and easy to commission. Thanks to the modularity of the VLT drives, options can be retrofitted or changed according to the requirements. The ease of installation and commissioning; and the flexibility of the system save time and reduce costs. Of course all VLT safety functions and option modules have been approved by the official authorities and comply with current regulations.
The environment - our most valuable asset
The purchase price is only 10 percent of the total life cycle costs of a frequency drive. 90% of these costs are energy and running costs, like maintenance and repair. Using VLT drives reduces these costs dramatically. With VLT drives you are able to optimize virtually every application. The built in RFI filter and DC coils save costs when installing the drives because it is not necessary to install extra external components. During operation our efficient VLT drives, now available in the power range from 0.18 kW to 1.2 MW; and their intelligent functions and options start saving right from the start. Energy consumption and the emission of CO2 gasses are reduced considerably.
