National Instruments' NI-DAQmx 7.2 measurement and control services software incorporates TEDS reader functionality into NI Measurement & Automation Explorer and DAQ Assistant. TEDS (transducer electronic data sheet) technology - supported by IEEE 1451.4 - eliminates paper-based sensor data by storing it on an EEPROM embedded in the sensor electronics. The method considerably simplifies sensor configuration and avoids data entry errors. In addition, NI has included the necessary TEDS communications circuitry in three of its hardware products: the SC-2350 carrier for its SCC signal conditioning modules, the BNC-2096 19in rack mounted terminal system for accelerometers and microphones, and the SCXI-1314T front-mounting terminal system for its bridge sensor input modules. *Honeywell Sensotec (www.honeywell.com/sensotec) smart sensors and NI's LabVIEW and data acquisition hardware now operate on a common IEEE 1451.4 compatible platform, following a period of collaboration between the companies. Along with other major sensor manufacturers, Honeywell helped develop the common platform, called 'Sensors Plug & Play', by using NI LabVIEW to programme its sensors. Test and measurement customers can now take advantage of seamless interoperability between Sensotec smart sensors and signal conditioners and NI data acquisition hardware and software.
