This month sees the launch of National Instruments' new MXI-3 serial interface This month sees the launch of National Instruments' new MXI-3 serial interface that allows industrial system developers to add remote, rugged I/O slots to PCI and CompactPCI/PXI format computers. Streaming data at rates approaching 100Mbyte/s, the new interface also enables similar computers to be linked over distances up to 200m. Importantly, the MXI-3 interface is completely software and hardware transparent. It requires no special driver software or application modifications. Once installed, the host computer automatically initiates communication with all connected chassis, allowing the entire multi-chassis system to act as if were a single PC. Thus numerous high speed I/O and control points, that may typically be spread across large industrial sites, can be tightly integrated.
