Achieving Nanometre Resolution With Ceramic Servomotors

Nanomotion's Servocraft range of nano-motors, which is supplied in the UK bym Michromech, is available in four model series. The HR series can be used to drive linear stages and rotary axes via ceramic collars or rather than rotary screws. Its motion is extremely smooth, and speeds of up to 250mm/s are possible with a feasible step resolution of 5nm and a dynamic stall force of up to 30N. The similar LS series offers less force and is best operated at speeds below 20mm/s. The smallest standard nano-motor is the single-element ST, which can be supplied in standard or vacuum versions, while the smallest Nanoserv series is suitable for applications such as miniature digital camera focusing.
