With diffuse, through-beam and retro-reflective versions, the latest WetLine sensors from ifm electronic have undergone a number of tests to prove their capabilities in very difficult operating environments. These have included repeated cycles of simmering at 80°C followed by an ice water plunge over a period of weeks.
To reduce ingress points, these M18 sensors all have fixed range and function, so for diffuse object sensors there are three variants with 100mm, 200mm and 300mm ranges. The retro-reflective units work up to 4m and through beam reach 20m. All devices are, of course, fully food-grade stainless steel in construction, apart from the EPDM seals and polycarbonate lenses.
