AI vs superbugs: Is the future of antibiotics here?

There’s no escaping the foreboding headlines that predict the end of the world as we know it, thanks to the severely damaging side effects of artificial intelligence on everything from the environment to creative industries. However, amongst all this doom and gloom, a rare piece of positive AI-related news recently caught my attention: a medical breakthrough that could be truly game-changing...

Back in March, I discussed the NHS’s initiative to evaluate AI’s ability to speed up breast cancer diagnosis.

Now, another major development has taken place in the medical sector: MIT scientists have used artificial intelligence to develop potentially revolutionary antibiotics that could fight drug-resistant bacteria, and treat MRSA infections and gonorrhoea.
