Compared to the previous IVT model, the IVT 3.0 has been developed in accordance with the ISO 26262 Road Vehicles – Functional Safety standard.
Within this standard, the measuring system meets safety level ASIL C for current measurement. It therefore meets the safety requirements of the automotive industry for a component that is absolutely essential to the system.
ASIL safety classifications are being demanded by more and more automotive manufacturers, also in light of developments in autonomous driving.
Extremely robust against overcurrents
The shunt-based technology also makes the IVT 3.0 particularly robust. A current of up to 12,000A can safely flow through the bus bar for short periods without damaging the sensor.
The current measurement range extends up to 4,000A. At ambient temperatures ranging from –40 to +105°C, the system operates with consistent precision and a maximum deviation of only ±0.4 percent – throughout its entire life cycle. The IVT 3.0 also features integrated temperature measurement.
In addition to the high-precision current measurement channel, an optional analog channel is available for the IVT 3.0.
It can continue to measure even if, for example, the 12V power supply of the vehicle's electrical system fails or is disrupted. This further increases the robustness of the system.
Other options include various CAN protocols and a sleep mode. This significantly reduces power consumption to less than 100µA on average. The sensor is ready for operation again within just 30 milliseconds. On customer request, the IVT 3.0 can also be further developed with a CANopen interface or for 24V vehicle electrical system compatibility.
Successor model IVT 3.0 Pro with insulation monitoring
The IVT 3.0 Pro was developed to complete the IVT 3.0 product range. In addition to current measurement, it is also capable of measuring voltage on six channels.
Voltage measurement with a nominal range up to 1,000V and an overvoltage measurement range up to 1,250V achieves a similarly high level of precision as current measurement.
The IVT 3.0 Pro also features active insulation monitoring. This is not only capable of detecting symmetrical and asymmetrical insulation faults, but also of specifying the fault location.
