Pneumatic valve terminals play a critical role in the performance of automated machines, acting as the bridge between intelligent software-driven control systems and the actuators and sensors that are driving motion and sending feedback.

The valve terminal design concept, which integrates electrical connections with solenoids and feedback signals, was first introduced 30 years ago. Its design development has revolutionised industrial automation, moving the technology on from purely mechanical/pneumatic sub-bases, and delivering welcome time and cost savings.

As automation demands continue to evolve, so must the technology supporting it. While valve terminals have undergone multiple iterations, Festo identified an opportunity to develop a new generation of systems tailored to machine designers’ and engineers' challenges in the coming decade.

By anticipating future needs, these valve terminals aim to enhance efficiency, flexibility, and integration within increasingly complex automated environments.
