Whilst the technology’s rise – especially that of generative AI – continues to spark serious environmental and existential concerns, it’s equally true that artificial intelligence can also have a hugely positive impact when used conscientiously.
Nowhere is this truer than in the medical industry. AI has huge potential not only in streamlining healthcare, but also in accelerating life-changing scientific research.
One exciting example that hit the press last month was the announcement that the NHS would be testing the effectiveness of artificial intelligence in detecting breast cancer earlier.
The £11m EDITH (Early Detection using Information Technology in Health) trial is part of the Government’s wider push to integrate more digital technologies into healthcare. It will see nearly 700,000 women across the country participate in what will be the world’s largest trial of its kind to date.
