Drive Motor Now With Profibus Interface

Leroy Somer's Varmeca inverter drive and motor combination has been upgraded with the addition of a Profibus interface. The new fieldbus-capable Varmeca 20 can now be programmed via a PC and networked for remote control and monitoring, and diagnostic interrogation. As in the original version, which was launched around five years ago, the speed of the model 20 can still be varied at the drive via a potentiometer. Speed ranges are 360-2,400rpm (four-pole) and 720-4,800rpm (two-pole); four-quadrant operation is provided, with braking resistors enabling dynamic braking for emergency stops or rapid changes in speed and direction. Acceleration and deceleration ramps are user-selected and it is possible to coast or ramp to a stop.
