Where next? The future of manufacturing

Is your organisation large or small?
Is your organisation involved in heavy industry, medium-sized industry or small industry?
How are these sectors defined?
What is the way forward?


There
are no unique answers, but anyone involved in ownership of a company, or running a company, must address these questions on a regular basis in order to set a strategy
for continuing in business. 

The continuity of an organisation can be achieved by gradual change over a period of years – a concept much favoured by Continental and Far Eastern organisations.
However, Government policies will inevitably influence our decisions. 

The current trend in the UK is to reduce home-produced steel in favour of supplies from overseas, rather than rely on UK
manufacture and supply. The inevitable consequence of such a policy will be to make it much more difficult for heavy industry, with large projects that have long lead times.
