RDP Electronics is offering a simple-to-install and economic approach to torque measurement, using 'off-the-shelf' transducers where applications do not require high dynamic response.
Although RDP offers a comprehensive range of torque transducers, these require good alignment and often a break in the shaft as well. Frequently it is possible to mount either a motor or a braking device with bearings and restrain it using the torque armature. A load cell can then be used to restrain the torque arm and the end distance from the load cell mounting and point of rotation, enabling torque to be calculated. Because RDP stocks a range of affordably priced load cells, this approach to torque measurement also has the advantage of both availability and low cost.
