Small Brushless Motors Come With Integrated Drives

Lenze is now supplying the Panasonic B1 range of motors (including geared units), which have the benefit of a fully integrated drive within the motor frame. Available from 30 to 130W (110 or 230V single phase), the B1 brushless motors are based on Panasonic's 'Hyper' technology. A plastic body has been developed with a moulded core design for the windings, resulting in reduced motor mass and length. With its drive, a B1 motor is about the same length as a conventional motor. Accurate speed control is achieved with Hall-effect sensors, built into the back of the motor and protected to IP65. Lenze claims that the overall performance of these B1 motor/drive combinations is better than open loop ac inverter systems and on a level with dc systems. Constant torque is available across a 100:1 speed range (30-3,000rpm), with full torque available at zero speed. The speed holding accuracy is quoted within 1%. A choice of analogue (basic control)or digital (advanced control) keypads allows external communication with the drive electronics.
