Measuring 'real' electric drive efficiency
It is not enough to measure the efficiency of an electric drive system
under steady state conditions, because the biggest losses usually occur
during starting and stopping. Electrical and mechanical power values must
be measured very quickly and, most importantly, simultaneously. This can
be achieved using any of LEM's 'Norma' analysers used in conjunction with
the company's new PI1 process interface, which allows up to four speeds
and four torque values to measured simultaneously.
The analysers measure the respective electrical power for the efficiency
calculation, under dynamic conditions. Electrical values are sampled at
113kHz, 340kHz or 1.02MHz, according to which Norma model is in use,
while mechanical powers are sampled at 34kHz. With eight inputs for
mechanical values, the system can measure multiple motor systems or
conduct measurements before and after transmissions.
