Greg Burton, Project Innovation Lead at Lesters, looks back at one of his favourite design projects and why it is now bringing Boccia to the masses.

Designers love a challenge. It’s kind of built into our psyche, and we’re probably at our most fulfilled when we can come up with a solution
for a problem.

When we were approached by Loughborough University’s Dr George Torrens to help him create a new piece of Boccia equipment to boost inclusivity, the answer
was a no-brainer. 

The sport, which sees competitors with a significant physical impairment use a ramp device to propel leather balls as close as possible to a
jack, has been growing in popularity and recent Paralympic success in Paris has seen more people want to take part.

Traditionally, the ramp has been very heavy and
expensive to make. The brief was to come up with something that was lighter and could be purchased at a relatively low cost.
