Huntsman reveals new materials and RM machine at Euromold

RenShape SL 7820 is a new advanced white photopolymer resin which produces durable solid black models. The low viscosity white resin requires no additional finishing or painting and offers savings in both time and money, particularly in sectors such as the automotive industry where black is the colour of choice for most concept modelling.

The chemical reaction created when the white-coloured, low viscosity RenShape SL 7820 resin is used on a solid state SLA platform, produces solid black parts which require no additional painting. The models produced have a good surface finish, can show fine detail and have an overall, tough, durable ABS-like appearance. With its high elongation and excellent high impact strength, RenShape SL7820 is ideal for building automotive parts, consumer goods packaging, electronics, housing and even toys.

Huntsman's new Araldite Highly Flexible Composite is a fibre reinforced composite material with outstanding flexibility, high transparency and brightness. The material can be used in a variety of applications, ranging from racing cars to heavy duty protective clothing. Its mechanical characteristics are similar to those of elastomers – excellent impact, abrasion and tear resistance – with good elongation and tensile strength. Parts can be made quickly and cost effectively from a single shell mould which makes processing very simple. The parts can be room cured for 24 hours or in oven for 1 hour at
60oC.

Whether you apply RenPaste 4666 by rapid manufacturing systems or by hand, you get high quality, cost effective results especially for aerospace, automotive and marine applications. Simply changing the mixing parameters changes the rheology of the material. It exhibits no slump or exotherm from a fluid paste with an application layers as down to 10mm, to a viscous material with an application layer of up to 40mm.

RenPaste 4666 reduces the need for additional repairs or re-working of the model and the fine surface quality reduces any further finishing time. It is possible to produce cost effective, lightweight models, which can be remodelled without incurring high costs. RenPaste 4666 has outstanding dimensional stability and low shrinkage which guarantees precision for plugs and models.

Huntsman also revealed it new Araldite Digitalis, a new rapid manufacturing (RM) machine capable of producing large numbers of parts simultaneously at speed and with high accuracy.

Based on entirely new MEMS (micro-electro mechanical system) technology, Araldite Digitalis is fundamentally different to other technologies, and is neither based on lasers nor on light reflecting MEMS as used in 3D printers.

At the heart of Araldite Digitalis is an MLS MicroLightSwitch, a new exposure system operating via a computer controlled micro-mechanical shutter system, which selectively exposes a larger surface area of radiation curable resin in a single step. The exposure, rather than a laser that exposes one point at a time, enables much faster and accurate manufacturing even of very complex parts.

Araldite Digitalis also won the EuroMold-AWARD 2008 Gold Prize on December 3, 2008 in Frankfurt, the first opening day of the exhibition.
