Lee Spring has published a free guide to the design of compression,
extension and torsion springs. The 28-page document covers key design
factors and provides calculations for spring rate and stress, plus tables
listing tolerances for spring diameter and load. Design guidance is also
given in a form that can be faxed back to the company for a custom
solution.
Charts are available to help solve specific spring design problems, while
a glossary of definitions covers most of the common terms used in spring
design. Four pages are devoted to spring materials, listing material
types by British Standard specification together with information on
physical properties and performance criteria.
