RDP Electronics can now supply LVDTs that will withstand the harsh environment encountered in pulp and paper manufacturing processes. Typical applications include the use of slice indication LVDTs on paper machines to measure the gap through which the paper pulp is extruded on to the webbing. Transducers in this environment are subject to contact with the sticky paper pulp which can prove corrosive to materials used in standard LVDTs. To overcome these drawbacks RDP has engineered solutions using special materials and special transducers which are resistant to the harmful effects of paper stock. These transducers are also waterproof designed to be unaffected by high pressure water jets used during paper machinery cleaning operations. Not only are the LVDTs resistant to the operating environment but sufficiently robust to have survived instances where the body is used as a ladder by personnel repairing the machines.
