China’s latest milestone proves hyperloop’s “immense potential”, says expert

This week, China conducted another successful test of its T-Flight ‘high-speed flying train’, a maglev hyperloop system designed to reach maximum speeds of 1,000km per hour.

A breakthrough has come in the race to develop the world’s first fully functioning hyperloop as the China Aerospace Corporation (CASIC) completes the first test of its integrated system. 

The tests were conducted in a 2km low-vacuum tube built by CASIC in the Shanxi province in north China.

Designed to reach maximum speeds of 1,000km per hour, the Hyperloop T-Flight could reduce travel time between Beijing and Shanghai to just 90 minutes.

It has not been disclosed how fast the train travelled during the test, but Science and Technology Daily, the official newspaper of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, reported that speeds were in line with the project developer’s estimates.

All systems functioned correctly, with the train successfully achieving controlled navigation and safe stopping.
