Currently, the aerospace sector contributes 3.5 percent of the world’s CO2 emissions. By 2050, it is estimated that, as more and more people from developing nations start to take to the air, passenger numbers are set to increase by 68 percent.

This demand will disproportionately impact the short and medium-range markets, which are typically served by narrow-body aircraft types. Consequently, the effort to make this type of travel as sustainable as possible will have a profound impact on our overall ability to make aviation sustainable. 

Propulsion systems, powered by sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), will likely play a big part in the first phase of the industry’s transformation.
