Rapid hardware prototyping plays an important role in this, enabling manufacturers to find and fix technical challenges early on, and providing them with a better understanding of how end users will interact with components and products in real environments. The prototyping process also allows design engineers to fail fast, iterate and evolve more quickly.
Skipping the prototyping and testing phase carries a significant risk. If an error is discovered at the manufacturing stage, the cost of putting it right is far higher in money, time and reputation than identifying and rectifying it during prototyping.
