Brushless DC motors: The easy and effective answer

For some time, induction motors were ubiquitous in industry, used across multiple markets for conveyors, mixers, and packaging systems. When Panasonic withdrew from the induction market, engineers lost access to a supply of tried and tested motor technology. There is, however, an upside to this gap: developers now have the opportunity to upgrade to brushless DC (BLDC) motors with minimal disruption and financial outlay.

BLDC steps into the gap
There are many advantages to BLDC motors, which are used in the same applications as
induction motors. Their compact form factor, high efficiency, speed stability, and many other features mean that they are increasingly used
for new and emerging applications, such as autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs), as well as conveyors, mixers, pumps, winding and tensioning machines,
and capping and packaging systems.

Swapping an induction motor for a BLDC does not require a complex redesign. The mounting
systems are the same for both. A BLDC, however, has many advantages over an induction motor.
