To Bletchley and beyond: Decoding the future of AI

The historic grounds of Bletchley Park, where World War II codebreakers once toiled in secrecy, recently bore witness to the first-ever global AI Summit. Attended by around 120 representatives from around the world, the Summit marked a pivotal moment in our AI journey.

Cracking the code
A major success of the Summit was the signing of the 'Bletchley Declaration' by over 25 countries, including traditional rivals China and the
US, alongside the EU. Acknowledging the inherently international nature of AI risks, the agreement laid the groundwork for a collective approach to addressing them.

As a part
of the event, the UK launched the world's first AI Safety Institute to address everything from potential social harms (such as bias, misinformation, and people who put
the milk in before the cereal) to the more extreme danger of complete loss of control.

A £225m investment in a new AI supercomputer was also announced.
Designed to be 10 times faster than the UK’s current fastest machine, it promises to accelerate research in fusion energy, healthcare, and climate modelling.
