Clutch delivers more torque for size

The new Monninghoff type 450 double flux-crossed clutches, which are supplied by Lenze in the UK, offer greater torque capacity for size. Available with torque capacities from 500 to 2,000Nm (the largest model having an outside diameter of only 315mm), these electromagnetic clutches offer an economic and compact switching element for low to medium speeds.

Electromagnetic clutches usually have just one pair of poles, but the Mönninghoff design creates two pairs, theoretically doubling the forces. In practice, however, there are some losses, leading to a big increase in friction torque.

The type 450 clutches can run dry in both static and dynamic applications, but can also be used where oil-splash is present. A high operating frequency can be achieved depending on the load inertia, with switching rates of up to 15/min possible with low inertia.

The unit is available in bearing or flange mounted format, and may also be supplied as a clutch coupling for in-line drives. The clutches need no maintenance and their torque transmission is backlash-free.
