Torque sensors are key to building safety into cobots

Cobots play a significant role in increasing productivity and are one of the fastest-growing segments in the robotics industry. Worldwide cobot installations surpassed 39,000 in 2021, up from 11,000 in 2017. This is a growth rate of 63 percent, far outpacing the 5.7 percent growth rate for traditional industrial robots, according to the World Robotics 2022 Report.

Integrating safety features into cobots has been critical to driving market growth and acceptance.
Torque sensors – which monitor the mechanical torque in a cobot’s rotational pivot points –
are one of the best ways to integrate safety into these machines. Why? They allow
for a faster response time and improved accuracy, leading to safer and more reliable cobot
systems, as well as increased human safety.

Here’s how.
