How to improve automation with adhesives

The clever application of adhesives can work wonders for companies looking to overhaul manual processes – whether that’s to speed up output, improve efficiency, or ensure uniformity of results. Bob Orme, Senior Application Engineer at LOCTITE, explores the growing influence of ‘sticky stuff’ in manufacturing.

Complex manufacturing processes are a balance between multiple, often contradictory, disciplines. They must be uniform, to minimise even the smallest deviations that might impede performance. They need to be reliable, ensuring
customers get the same quality whenever a part was produced. And to deliver output at the volumes required for commercial viability, all of these processes need to be done at speed.

Get
it right, and you have the holy grail of manufacturing: rapid, accurate, and cost-effective. Often, though, striking the correct balance is a challenge. Producing at speed sacrifices vital precision. Alternatively, many companies
find that to achieve that precision, they must go slowly via laborious manual processes.

LOCTITE works closely with design engineers to understand their common pain points and deliver viable solutions to overcome
these challenges. As you might expect from its brand, the answer typically involves the use of adhesives – literally, the glue that keeps the manufacturing process in place.
