Solar energy enclosures illuminate brighter future for Haiti

Amidst the pressing challenges faced by Haiti due to a lack of electricity, a transformative partnership between Ohio State University's Solar Energy Society and Stahlin Non-Metallic Enclosures emerged to empower Haitian communities through solar power.

The situation
The Haiti Empowerment Project brings the intellectual and material resources of Ohio State University together with Haitian counterparts to assist in the
development and implementation of culturally relevant projects.

The Haiti Empowerment Project’s mission is to foster empowerment through global problem-solving by collaborating with Haitian universities, communities,
and governmental/non-governmental entities. Over the past 18 years, the project has established enduring partnerships with local schoolteachers, principals, community leaders, as well as university and
government officials.

The challenge
An Ohio State University student group, Solar Education and Outreach, a student chapter of the American Solar Energy Society, initiated a
sustainable project for Haiti after members had learned that one of Haiti's largest problems was the lack of electricity – specifically for lighting.
