The rapid rise of 3D printing

Rapid prototyping is already revolutionising manufacturing by significantly reducing the time required to develop and produce new products. Yet, its cost efficiency is also playing a crucial role, as more manufacturers urgently seek alternative materials and methods which save costs without compromising performance. Get It Made’s Founder and Director Luke Smoothy lays bare its wide benefits.

Even before it reaches its full potential, 3D printing is now enabling physical prototypes to be created in a matter of hours or days, rather than the weeks or months that traditional manufacturing methods would require. This rapid turnaround time allows manufacturers quickly to test and refine their designs, reducing the risk of costly errors and delays later in the production process.

Additionally, rapid prototyping enables manufacturers to iterate and experiment easily with different designs, materials and production processes, ultimately leading to better products and improved efficiency.

Furthermore, with the advancements in additive manufacturing technologies and materials, rapid prototyping is increasingly being used for production-level manufacturing as well, allowing for the creation of complex geometries and lightweight structures that were previously impossible to produce with traditional manufacturing methods.
