Hidden benefits: The heat treatment industry

The heat treatment industry plays an essential, but often overlooked or ‘hidden’, role in the manufacture of a vast range of products and components that are used on a daily basis.

Here, Roger Haw, Managing Director of Flame Hardeners Ltd. and current Chairman of the Contract Heat Treatment Association, provides an overview of the heat treatment industry today.

The heat treatment industry provides heat treatment services to a very wide variety of engineering companies and machine shops. The reason it exists is that only the very large or very specialised companies, can justify investing in facilities of their own. 

Heat treatment processes and the benefits they bestow upon component performance are better than they have ever been. However, these benefits do come at a cost.
