Reducing risk in servo system design

The automation industry is currently experiencing unprecedented supply issues for items such as semiconductors, alongside shortages of materials including copper and aluminium. These essentials were in abundant supply only a couple of years ago.

These shortages are forcing electronics manufacturers to alter hardware and software to incorporate components that are more readily available. In parallel, industrial automation companies like Festo are now producing multi-function components and systems that not only deliver mechanical and electrical connectivity, but also the intelligent connectivity that is required.

Out of every crisis comes opportunity: multi-functional devices use fewer raw materials while delivering multiple benefits.

Servo system hardware
The need to integrate a servo system seamlessly into a PLC environment is one example where necessity is proving to be the mother of invention. Festo has developed a single product that connects to several networks, ensuring seamless connectivity, combined with a reduction in complexity. This enables system designers to offer their customers up-to-date electronics, multiprotocol functionality and improved performance, with a much-reduced inventory.
