Unsung heroes: Why the UK needs engineers

Happy New Year! Traditionally, January is the time of year when people come up with resolutions, reflecting on what they can do better, ways they can improve their lives, and promising that, this year – no, really, this year – they’re finally going to start going to the gym…But I think it’s also important to take a step back and appreciate what we have already achieved.

So, let’s start off the year on a positive note, by celebrating the wondering accomplishments of the engineering sector – and the huge benefits it brings both to the UK economy and to our everyday lives.

According to the Royal Academy of Engineering, the industry accounts for 32 percent of our total economic output, contributing £645bn annually.

This is estimated to be around 23 percent higher than the average job in the UK, proving that engineers are vital to the country’s future growth.
